Grandpa's Bee

A long time before I was born, my Grandma and Grandpa moved into the house on Beechwood Avenue. They had a young family of 4 little girls. The little girls slept in the attic in a big feather bed. It was cold there on winter night. Grandma put hot bricks under the covers at the foot of the bed to keep the little girls warm.

小女孩死了，嘴角却带着微笑，通过擦燃火柴的美好幻想与她饥寒交迫的现实生活形成了鲜明的对比。安徒生通过这个童话，表达了对穷苦人民悲惨遭遇的深刻同情，和对当时社会的不满，无情地揭示了资本主义社会的黑暗和罪恶。
5、《背影》
是现代作家朱自清（1898-1948）于1925年所写的一篇回忆性散文。这篇散文叙述的是作者离开南京到北京大学，父亲送他到浦口火车站，照料他上车，并替他买橘子的情形。
在作者脑海里印象最深刻的，是他父亲替他买橘子时在月台爬上攀下时的背影。作者用朴素的文字，把父亲对儿女的爱，表达得深刻细腻，真挚感动，从平凡的事件中，呈现出父亲的关怀和爱护。
普通的英语文学书籍，都不适合高中生去看。英文文学作品中的用词通常来说都比较生僻，即使是英语专业八级毕业的学生，看这些英文原版书的时候，还是会感觉比较吃力。在书籍中的用词也不是常用的词汇。对于高考帮助非常的有限。
适合高中生难度以及水平的英语文字资料推荐21世纪英文报。以前高考在出题的时候，就有引用过21世纪英文报晚年的文章。对于高考会有一定的帮助。
并且21世纪英文报是按照报纸的规格来进行编写，他的内容都是紧扣时事的。对于一部分没有条件上网看电视的高中生来说，通过21世纪英文报来了解外部发生的事情，对于自己的学习也会有很大的帮助，因为像英语语文还有政治历史的出题，都是会跟时事相结合的。
21世纪英文报上还有大家最害怕的科技文。通过大量阅读科技文章，对于高考中阅读题里面的科技文得分也会有很大的帮助。此外21世纪英文报还可以训练大家的阅读速度。想要达到高考英语卷子在考试结束前半个小时以上完成卷子的话，通常来说一份8页的21世纪英文报要求在一个小时之内读完。
21世纪英文报的单词基本上不超过属于高考范围内的，并且会有大量的词组短语。我们在高考备考的过程中，通过背3500单词和高中英语万考点，可以对高考范围内的单词和短语有一定的熟悉，通过阅读21世纪英文报，在实战的环境下读到自己记忆过的内容，那么对于那些出现概率比较大的单词和词组短语，就会有更强的记忆。这样更容易拿到140以上的高分。
一个高中生其实有很多的英文书籍可以看，比如说一些简明的英语小说，篇幅并不是很长，但是单词量也具备一些。所以说，你可以选择阅读一些名著的缩写本，或者一下小说的简明版本，都可以得到很好的提高。另外还有一些科技类的或者是一些像读者文摘以前那个版本的读物，另外各种英文报纸也可以去阅读的，这对于英语的提高都有很多的益处。
让孩子读英语书的目的其实是让孩子有更传统的英语语境和语感，这就是老美常常可以明显的区分，那些文章是新移民写的，那些是从小长在美国的人写的，那就是很多的习惯用语会完全不同，所以如果你是这个目的的话，建议让孩子不是看英语原版书，而是看海外的英文报纸，杂志以及新闻，因为原本书中太多的语法和用词，在普通时候，99%的老外是绝对不可能去用的。

I had gone into a supervisor's office to talk about a couple of issues that needed to be addressed. She, like all of the men and women in her department, had been through the proverbial "ringer." The stress was so intense, one could almost taste it.

I had been assisting the department during a crunch period of being very short-handed, and was watching everyone get close to burn-out. The next words out of her mouth expressed a frustration of my own: "This work is not my gift from God. My family is!"
