A Review of Robinson Crusoe--

This is a novel by the English author Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. It is one of the most popular adventure novels in all literature. It is the story of Bobinson Crusoe, an Englishman who is shipwrecked in a lonely tropical island. He builds himself a hut, grows his own food, and becomes self-sufficient. After 23 years he meets with a group of cannibals and rescues one of their prisoners, a young native whome he calls Friday.Crusoe and his“man”Friday become close friends, and when they are finally rescued four years later, both return to England.

Robinson Crusoe was partly based on the actual deeds of Alexander Selkirk, an 18th-century Scottish sailor who spent almost five years alone on a desert island. This novel is famous for its lovely details and its expression of belief in man's ability when left alone in nature.

My one breath reads off the fairy tale which "Sea Daughter" this Anderson writes to give me to be specially deep. "Sea Daughter" this article everybody is certainly very familiar! "Sea Daughter" in the fairy tale leading character lives in the sea deep place, is a mermaid. She might pafor more than 300 years years in the seabed world, then changed into the froth, finished her life happiness. Her life is longer than several times the humanity, but she does not have the human unique that kind “not to extinguish the soul”. In order to obtain this inspiration she to give up in the sea life, she endures these pain from already the fish tail changed into a two person leg. Afterward she liked a prince, obtained a humanity's soul. That prince and the world female has married, her hope did not have. If she continues to become “the sea daughter”after must assassinate that prince, may return to her in the family member, returns to belongs to her from already world. But she does not have to do this actually from has thrown in entering the sea to change into the froth. I like "Sea Daughter". It caused me to understand the life was valuable. Must have the strong will in anticipation in any surf-ace, goes bravely facing it. In this book, I have not only known some happy stories, but also receives the very big inspiration education.

Last night, I read a moving short story named A Boy Buys God. Bondi’s parents died in his early age and he is raised by his uncle. But one day, his uncle falls down from scaffold and God want to take his life away. Bondi heard that God is an amazing thing that can save the life of his uncle. Therefore, he goes out with one dollar to buy God. But he doesn’t buy one until the 29th shop’s door opened. It’s an elderly man who is willing to help him after Bondi telling his story.

Several days later, Bondi’s uncle gets great treatment by the most outstanding doctors in the world and finally he totally recovery. In the end, he knows what saves his life—love. It’s Bondi’s pure love to him that saves his love. On the other side, it’s his love to Bondi that saves himself. Therefore, we can say that love is mutual and rewarded.

Tonight I watched the movie for the third time. I really enjoy this film so much.

So what's your choice between being a common person or a hero with people's respects? Most people will choose the latter. But what will be your choice if the cost is laying your lover among the risks? What will it be if the cost is you can never tell the girl, who you love so much, that you love her? The spider man had this contradiction. But finally he still chose the latter, not in order to be a hero, but to make this word peaceful.

I was so moved by the words the Aunt Mary said:

You will never guess what he wants to be, the spider man. He knows the hero when he sees one, too a few characters out there, flying all around out there, saving old girls like me. Lord knows kids like Henry need hero courageous, sacrificing for people, setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People enthrone them, cheer them, scream their names and years later they will tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse the one who taught them to hold on to stand longer. I believe there is a hero in all of us. They keep us be honest, give us strength, make us noble, and finally allow us to die with proud. Ever though sometimes we have to initiatively give up the thing we want most, even our dreams. Spider man did that for Henry, so he wants to know where he is gone. He needs him.

The spider man got much from these words, so did I. And what about you? what's the hero lying in you?

I read the book of Robinson Crusoe, their captors.

Article describes multiple sailing in the whole island, Crusoe masters of extraordinary survival 28 years experience, strive for survival, show the ingenuity and a man with indomitable perseverance in the face of hardship persistent existence desire, the lonely and eager to rescue the mood. In a lonely island overcome Robinson was done with fear, a savage and said he was "on Friday, they get along with each other, then built on Friday, Crusoe one kind of warm friendship." I also enjoy the disclosure of the business concept: Crusoe each sailing and adventure has clear commercial purpose, with his own property and calculating profit, he will also oneself life the island is his territory, in addition to reveal its economic thought, I admire John Robinson's rich, more learning his strong initiative and spirit of adventure, early efforts, hard work, and perfect kindness thought!

After a weeks persistence, I finally finished reading the foreign famous book "the old man and the sea". The book impressed me so much that I couldnt forget it. This novel mainly describes an old man fishing alone at sea. He caught a big fish and tied its head and upper body to the side of the boat. But when he met a shark, the old man tried his best to fight with the shark. The shark ate all the fish he could eat, but there were still 800 pounds left.

Reading this book, my heart cant be calm for a long time. This ordinary and respectable old man made me deeply understand: "a man should not be overwhelmed by any difficulties, and should do his best to fight with the hardships in life.

I really admire grandpa Santiagos tough spirit. When I read about my grandfathers fierce fight with sharks, I dont know whether I should be nervous or worried about my grandfather. However, my grandfather always sticks to the optimistic spirit to deal with some great difficulties. When I saw it, I couldnt help thinking of myself. Whenever I met some difficulties, I always felt very upset, bored, and wanted to escape from reality. If you look at Grandpa Santiago, no matter what difficulties he encounters, he never flinches, but bravely copes with them!

We should do the same in life. We should not be greedy and afraid of death. We should have confidence in ourselves. Even if we encounter many difficulties, we should never let it down. We should be brave to eliminate it.

I believe that with my efforts, I must become as brave and brave as Grandpa Santiago.

Several years ago, when I was a little girl I have already read the novel Jane Eyre. At that time, I was attracted by the touching story. But today, after watching the movie, I was moved by Jane, the adamant, independent, brave and honest girl. Why did we say Jane was an adamant and independent girl? Let’s look at her childhood. Her parents died when she was a little girl, so she was brought up by her aunt Mrs. Reed, an acute and ruthless woman. Jane led a very bad life in her house. They treated her as badly as a ragtag. But Jane didn’t surrender. Later, she was sent to Lowood school,an orphan school. In there she didn’t get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a common person, just the same as any other girl around. Mr. Brocklehurste even asked Jane to stand on the chair and vilipended her in front of all the students. But Jane didn’t yielded. And her only friend Helen died, Jane was very sad, but she was not depressive all the time. Instead, she studied and worked energetically. At last, she became a teacher of logwood, and later became the family teacher of Adele. From her experience, we could found that Jane was independent; she changed her fate by herself. She suffered more than other girls at her age. She was independent both in physically and mentally.

Jane was brave. She dared to say no to Mr. Brocklehurst, cut her beautiful hair with Helen, and pull the horse for Mr. Rochester. What’s more, she dared to accepted Mr. Rochester’s love and pursuit of her own happy life. Though she said:“ Do you think because I am poor, obscure, and little. I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!—I have as much soul as you—-and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it was hard for you to leave me, as it is not for me to leave you. I am not talking to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities, nor even of mortal flesh; it is my spirit that addresses your spirit; just as it both had passed through the grave, and we stood at God’s feet,. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God’s feet. God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. These words expressed complete1y Jane ’s rebellious spirit. She told him her own feeling, and emphasized that they were equal.

As we know, there was strict distinguish in social stratum at that time. Mr. Rochester was in the high society, but Jane was only a family teacher. They were in quite different social stratums. What’s worse, in that society, people’s sense of love was on the basis of money. For the sake of money they could marry anyone even though the husband or the wife was an idiot on their eyes, money was everything, money was marriage. But unfortunately Jane was very poor. That’s to say, Jane should receive much rumor from society. In fact, she didn’t afraid of it. On the contrary, she accepted with no hesitation. When she knew Rochester’s wife was dead and he was blind, she went to look after Rochester determinedly. She didn’t care about anything else. And I still remember at the party, all the people from the high society laughed at Jane, they looked down upon Jane. She kept silent though her heart was very exciting. And to their surprise, Miss Ingrain was proved to be a loser, Jane defeated her though Jane had no property and beauty.Jane’ s plainness, poverty, position and disposition were contrasted to Ingrain obviously.Jane drove away those aristocrats from competitive stage.High position and great wealth showed by noble class was put aside.Jane got glorious victory.

Jane was self-respected and self-love. When she knew Rochester had a mad wife and she was still alive. Jane left. She couldn’t bare an incomplete love. She left her lover Rochester with contradiction and pain. Though she still loved him very much. She chose another road, which was endless. She was kind and strict to the moral concept. She couldn’t accept herself do something against the morality. She was self-respect.

To sum up, Jane was a charming girl .What she attracted us was not the beautiful face, lovely figure, and sweet voice .But her brave heart, intelligent brain and adamant character. So we didn’t surprise that Mr. Rochester chose Jane as his bride instead of Miss Ingrain. Because Jane was much mature and richer in soul. As a girl, I should learn from Jane. Especially in the materialistic society we should be in charge of our own fate. Don’t depend on others all the time. We should be independent .Don’t lead a luxurious life and in hope of marring a rich man, thinking that your husband would change your fate, your social position. That’s silly. We should realize that only depend on your own struggle then you could really charge your fate. What’s more, we need to be self-respect and self-love. As far as I am concerned, as a girl if you don’t respect and love yourself, so how do you require others to respect you? In short, we need to learn from Jane Eyre.

The old man and the sea is the work of Hemingway. Hemingway is a very unique writer. He has experienced two world wars and created a classic tough man image based on himself.

This book mainly describes an old fisherman named Santiago, who has not caught fish for eighty-four days in a row. On the eighty fifth day, he caught a big fish and dueled with the big fish for two days and two nights. Finally, the big fish was stabbed to death and tied to the ships side. But I met a shark on my way home. The old man fought with the shark to death, but the big fish was eaten up by the shark. At last, when he came back home, he only had a pair of white fish bones.

From this book, we can feel the old mans spirit of never giving in. When the old man faced the sharks, he knew that he could not defeat the sharks, but he still took out all the tools that could be used as weapons to fight with the sharks. Isnt that the noble quality we should have when facing difficulties, life and destiny?

Life is endless pursuit, it is full of ups and downs, but as long as we face it with a confident and tenacious heart like the old man, we will become the ultimate winner!

Jane Eyre, it’s one of my favorite English novels. Another one is Pride and prejudice. The two ladies, Jane and Elizabeth, are some kind of similar. Both of them are independent, long for true love, and defend against the old rules. They don’t have beautiful face, but they have beautiful minds.

When story began, Jane was a little girl living with her aunts and cousins. They didn’t like her, scolded her, treated her just like a nursemaid, and even locked her in the Red House. Later, she was sent to the Lowood School, where she met Helen, her friend. As time went by, the little poor girl grew up. Then she became a governess for a ten-year-old girl at Thornfield, where she met Mr. Rochester, her master. As a governess at Thornfield, she tasted the pleasures and pains of love. She fell in love with Rochester but had to leave him for some reasons. She found shelter at Moor House, where she focused on teaching and rejected Mr. River’s marriage. At the end, Jane returned to Thronfield after Mr. Rochester was blind. They have a quiet wedding:

“I know what it is to be love and be loved. No woman has ever been closer to her husband than I am to Edward. I am my husband’s life, and he is mine. We are always together, and have never had enough of each other’s company.”

Jane had a bad childhood, but it didn’t affect her much. She read books behind the thick curtain; she got education for eight years in poor condition; she was intelligent, sensible and wise. At the relationship with Edward Rochester, she was quite calm. The governess with her beautiful, pure and frank soul, move Edward. Rochester was rich, clever but a little weird. Jane thought she didn’t really know him and never sure whether he was serious or joking. So she kept a distance with him. Fortunately, she came across the distance and expressed her love to Mr. Rochester:

“Do you think I can watch another woman become your bride? Do you think I’m a machine, without feelings? Do you think, because I’m small and poor and plain, that I have no soul and no heart? Well, you’re wrong! I have as much soul and heart as you. It’s my spirit that speaks to your spirit! We are equal in the sight of God!”

I think when you heard of these words, you would stand at Jane’s side definitely. And that’s love I long for. In our real life, there are many examples that ladies lose themselves and become dependent after marriage. They give up their careers and the husband and kids become their center. For another instance, some ladies get married to the man they don’t love but possess a lot. They regard their husbands as ATMs. For the former, they lose themselves in marriage; for the latter, they do exchange with marriage. Besides, some graduates fall in love with others due to loneliness. You can see such lovers break up upon several months. They do not take love seriously; they do not prepare to love somebody; even, they do not know what love is and how to love. They just pretend to know.

I’ve heard the words: who is a real man? A real man is the one you stay with but you can be yourself. When I was in high school, a Chinese poem named To the Oak, impressed me a lot. I have to say, that’s the love I appreciate.

比如:背单词“and”,他就会一遍遍地念and,and ,a,n,d,and我个人不主张这种方法。

Reading the old man and the sea About the author Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest American writers in 20th century, is the representative of “lost generation” writer. He was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. worked as a reporter after graduating from high school in 1917.,amd served as an ambulance driver in the Italian infantry and was wounded just before his 19th birthday. Hospitalized, Hemingway fell in love with an older nurse.

In 1954, Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In his life, Hemingway married four times and wrote numerous essays, short stories and novels. The effects of Hemingway's lifelong depressions, illnesses and accidents caught up with him. In July 1961, he committed suicide in Ketchum, Idaho.

About the book The old man and the sea is one of Hemingway’s most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power , it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman ,down on his luck ,and his supreme ordeal ---a relentless , agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream . Here Hemingway recasts , in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat , of personal triumph won from loss . Written in 1952 ,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature .

About the old man Santiago is described as a failure by other fishermen in the village for catching no fish for a long time . However, he should be regarded as a hero all his life , when he had played the hand game with the great Negro from Cienfuegos who was the strongest man on the docks ;when he fight with that large marlin ; when he struggle with the sharks . You can find his optimism, confidence, wisdom, perseverance and bravery anywhere . I admire him not only because these but also his regarding these as the things he had to do , the rules he had to obey . Such a man is really a man , a marvelous man . All the characters of him is worth being learned not only in Hemingway’s times ,but for ever ; not only for a certain kind of man , but for all of us .Let’s always remember his word “But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

if we have a book ,we will not be felling of being longly

When I'm free or in trouble,I always take out a book and read quietly. In no time,I've put my heart into it so that I'll forget all the troubles. It's in this way that I've formed the habit of reading in any time.

Little boys as I was,I was interest in picture books and storybooks.I was struck by them.No sooner had I entered the middle school than I began to read novel, plays, essays and so on.I found I could get much from them.Little by little I took great interest in literature and last term I won the first prize in the composition contest among middle-school students in Zhe Jiang.

Reading “The Emperor's New Clothes”,I had to let out a burst of laughter over his fool.“The Little Match Girl” couldn't keep me from crying for her misery.“ Robinson Crusoe” took me into a strange world full of danger. And I was also deeply impressed by Helen Keller's patience and perseverance… Besides these, books also tell me other thing -how to be a man and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. In a word, good books can make me know what I didn't before. So I think of a good book as my best friend.

I'll never forget this famous saying,“ Good books are best friends who never turn their backs upon us.”

In the Chinese book, there is a text mainly teach us how to choose the book, the teacher let us read this text, after I read, I have a little understand the meaning of it, and then wait for the teacher to talk about, and I more understand, this is mainly about reading more books, can make us more knowledge.

I remember the teacher said, read more books can be happy life, so I have to try, for a week to read a book, I read the time, my mother said, "you are so good, sitting here to read seriously" "I was good, not now". Mother said, "this is good, reading is to read, not to the teachers and parents to see".

I now finally understand the benefits and benefits of reading books, reading the benefits are: 1, 2, rich knowledge, can be happy life. I think reading has become more fun, because reading the original is the rich, that it's good to read, can kill two birds with one stone, can be a wealth of knowledge and a happy life.

So I read more books will be for us a lot of help, so I here remind you that read mainly we don't pretend to understand.

In 1858, a French engineer, Aime Thome de Gamond, arrived in England with a plan for a twenty-one-mile tunnel under the English Channel. He said that it would be possible to build a platform in the centre of the Channel. This platform would serve as a port and a railway station. The tunnel would be well-ventilated if tall chimneys were built above sea level. In 1860, a better plan was put forward by an Englishman, William Low. He suggested that a double railway-tunnel should be built. This would solve the problem of ventilation, for if a train entered this tunnel, it would draw in fresh air behind it. Forty-two years later a tunnel was actually begun. If, at the time, the British had not feared invasion, it would have been completed. The world had to wait almost another 100 years for the Channel Tunnel. It was officially opened on March 7,1994, finally connecting Britain to the European continent.

Jeremy Hampden has a large circle of friends and if very popular at parties. Everybody admires him for his great sense of humour -- everybody, that is, except his six-year-old daughter, Jenny. Recently, one of Jeremy's closest friends asked him to make a speech at a wedding reception. This is the sort of thing that Jeremy loves. He prepared the speech carefully and went to the wedding with Jenny. he had included a large number of funny stories in the speech and, of course, it was a great success. As soon as he had finished, Jenny told him she wanted to go home. Jeremy was a little disappointed by this but he did as his daughter asked. On the way home, he asked Jenny if she had enjoyed the speech. To his surprise, she said she hadn't. Jeremy asked her why this was so and she told him that she did not like to see so many people laughing at him!

Firemen had been fighting the forest for nearly three weeks before they could get it under control. A short time before, great trees had covered the countryside for miles around. Now, smoke still rose up from the warm ground over the desolate hills. Winter was coming on and the hills threatened the surrounding villages with destruction, for heavy rain would not only wash away the soil but would cause serious floods as well. When the fire had at last been put out, the forest authorities ordered several tons of a special type of grass-seed which would grow quickly. The seed was sprayed over the ground in huge quantities by aeroplanes. The planes had been planting seed for nearly a month when it began to rain. By then, however, in many places the grass had already taken root. In place of the great trees which had been growing there for centuries patches of green had begun to appear in the blackened soil.

中英文文章阅读篇一 panionship of Books A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the pany he keeps; for there is a panionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best pany, whether it be of books or of men. A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of panions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and forting and consoling us in age. Men often discover their affinity to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb, ‘Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this:” Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them. A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world of a man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, bee our constant panions and forters. Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time have been to sift out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive e but what is really good. Books introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see the as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience bees ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe. The great and good do not die, even in this world. Embalmed in books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a living voice. It is an intellect to which on still listens. Joy in living es from having fine emotions, trusting them, giving them the freedom of a bird in the open. Joy in living can never be assumed as a pose, or put on from the outside as a mask. People who have this joy do not need to talk about it; they radiate it. They just live out their joy and let it splash its sunlight and glow into other lives as naturally as bird sings. We can never get it by working for it directly. It es, like happiness, to those who are aiming at something higher. It is a byproduct of great, simple living. The joy of living es from what we put into living, not from what we seek to get from it. I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in pany, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the panion that was so panionable as solitude. We are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers. A man thinking or working is always alone, let him be where he will. Solitude is not measured by the miles of space that intervene between a man and his fellows. The really diligent student in one of the crowded hives of Cambridge College is as solitary as a dervish in the desert. The farmer can work alone in the field or the woods all day, hoeing or chopping, and not feel lonesome, because he is employed; but when he es home at night he cannot sit down in a room alone, at the mercy of his thoughts, but must be where he can :see the folks,:" and recreate, and, as he thinks, remunerate himself for his day's solitude; and hence he wonders how the student can sit alone in the house all night and most of the day without ennui and :the blues:; but he does not realize that the student, though in the house, is still at work in his field, and chopping in his woods, as the farmer in his, and in turn seeks the same recreation and society that the latter does, though it may be a more condensed form of it. Society is monly too cheap. We meet at very short intervals, not having had time to acquire any new value for each other. We meet at meals three times a day, and give each other a new taste of that old musty cheese that we are. We have had to agree on a certain set of rules, called etiquette and politeness, to make this frequent meeting tolerable and that we need not e to open war. We meet at the post-office, and at the sociable, and about the fireside every night; we live thick and are in each other's way, and stumble over one another, and I think that we thus lose some respect for one another. Certainly less frequency would suffice for all important and hearty munications. Consider the girls in a factory---never alone, hardly in their dreams. It would be better if there were but one inhabitant to a square mile, as where I live. The value of a man is not in his skin, that we should touch him. I have a great deal of pany in my house; especially in the morning, when nobody calls. Let me suggest a few parisons, that some one may convey an idea of my situation. I am no more lonely than the loon in the pond that laughs so loud, or than Walden Pond itself. What pany has that lonely lake, I pray? And yet it has not the blue devils, but the blue angels in it, in the azure tint of its waters. The sun is alone, except in thick weather, when there sometimes appear to be two, but one is a mock sun. god is alone---but the devil, he is far from being alone; he sees a great deal of pany; he is legion. I am no more lonely than a single mullein or dandelion in a pasture, or a bean leaf, or sorrel, or a horse-fly, or a bumblebee. I am no more lonely than the Millbrook, or a weathercock, or the north star, or the south wind, or an April shower, or a January thaw, or the first spider in a new house.

I am an art student and I paint a lot of pictures. Many people pretend that they understand modern art. They always tell you what a picture is 'about'. Of course, many pictures are not 'about' anything. They are just pretty patterns. We like them in the same way that we like pretty curtain material. I think that young children often appreciate modern pictures better than anyone else. They notice more. My sister is only seven, but she always tells me whether my pictures are good or not. She came into my room yesterday. 'What are you doing?' she asked. 'I'm hanging this picture on the wall,' I answered. 'It's a new one. Do you like it?' She looked at it critically for a moment. 'It's all right,' she said, 'but isn't it upside down?' I looked at it again. She was right! It was! Late in the afternoon, the boys put up their tent in the middle of a field. As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire. They were all hungry and the food *** elled good. After a wonderful meal, they told stories and sang songs by the campfire. But some time later it began to rain. The boys felt tired so they put out the fire and crept into their tent. Their sleeping bags were warm and fortable, so they all slept soundly. In the middle of the night, two boys woke up and began shouting. The tent was full of water! They all leapt out of their sleeping bags and hurried outside. It was raining heavily and they found that a stream had formed in the field. The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent! Editors of newspapers and magazines often go to extremes to provide their readers with unimportant facts and statistics. Last year a journalist had been instructed by a well-known magazine to write an article on the president's palace in a new African republic. When the article arrived, the editor read the first sentence and then refused to publish it. The article began: 'Hundreds of steps lead to the high wall which surrounds the president's palace.' The editor at once sent the journalist a fax instructing him to find out the exact number of steps and the height of the wall. The journalist immediately set out to obtain these important facts, but he took a long time to send them. Meanwhile, the editor was getting impatient, for the magazine would soon go to press. He sent the journalist two urgent telegrams, but received no reply. He sent yet another telegram rming the journalist that if he did not reply soon he would be fired. When the journalist again failed to reply, the editor reluctantly published the article as it had originally been written. A week later, the editor at last received a telegram from the journalist. Not only had the poor man been arrested, but he had been sent to prison as well. However, he had at last been allowed to send a cable in which he rmed the editor that he had been arrested while counting the 1084 steps leading to the 15-foot wall which surrounded the president's palace.

如: Ireland, Past and Present(2011年安徽卷) Weakness and Kindness(2011年广东卷) Banking on Gardening(2011年新课标全国卷) 2. Law could bury ancient secrets for ever, archeologists warn(2011年上海卷) TV Will Better the World(2010年福建卷) 3. Shouldn’t We Know Who Invented the Windshield Wiper? (2011年江苏卷) Why do I read?(2010年四川卷) 4. Slow down. 例1:【原文】Human remains of ancient settle?鄄ments will be reburied and lost to science under a law that threatens research into the history of humans in Britain, a group of leading archeologists(考古学家) says. In a letter addressed to the justice secretary, Ken Clarke, 40 archeologists write of their “deep and widespread concern” about the issue. It centers on the law introduced by the Ministry of Justice in 2008 which requires all human remains unearthed in England and Wales to be reburied within two years, regardless of their age. The decision means scientists have too little time to study bones and other human remains of national and cultural significance. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage? A. New discoveries should be reburied, the government demands. B. Research time should be extended, scientists require. C. Law on human remains needs thorough discussion, authorities say. D. Law could bury ancient secrets for ever, archeologists warn. 认真阅读分析原文第一节不难发现,首句“Human remains of ancient settlements will be reburied and lost to science under a law that threatens research into the history of humans in Britain, a group of leading archeologists says”为主题信息,对其加以提炼不难得出D为答案。 In the animal kingdom, weakness can bring about aggression in other animals. This sometimes happens with humans also. But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people. I see it every day when people hold doors for me, pour cream into my coffee, or help me to put on my coat. And I have discovered that it makes them happy.(2011年广东卷阅读理解A篇首节) 【试题】Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. A Wheelchair Experience. B. Weakness and Kindness. C. Weakness and Strength. D. A Driving Experience. 认真阅读分析原文不难发现,首节第三句“But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people”为主题信息,表明作者认为弱者的存在可以导致强者的善良,简洁一下文字不难得出B为答案。 We know the famous ones―the Thomas Edisons and the Alexander Graham Bells―but what about the less famous inventors? What about the people who invented the traffic light and the windshield wiper(雨刮器)? Shouldn’t we know who they are?(2011年江苏卷阅读理解A篇首节) 【试题】Which of the following can best serve as the title of this passage? A. How to Help Students to Sell Their Inventions to Producers? B. How to Design a Built-in Device for Cleaning the Window? C. Shouldn’t We Know Who Invented the Windshield Wiper? D. Shouldn’t We Develop Invention Courses in Universities? 认真阅读分析原文首节不难发现,末句“Shouldn’t we know who they are?” Strategic speed serves as a kind of leadership. Teams that regularly take time to get things right, rather than plough ahead full bore, are more successful in meeting their business goals. That kind of strategy must come from the top.(2011年四川卷阅读理解E篇末节) 【试题】Which could be the best title for the text? A. Improve quality? Serve better. B. Deliver value? Plough ahead. C. Reduce time? Move faster. D. Need speed? Slow down. 认真阅读分析原文末节不难发现,“Teams that regularly take time to get things right, rather than plough ahead full bore, are more successful in meeting their business goals”含主题信息:商家不能不顾一切强调生产速度,造成产品质量下降,而应该定期花时间进行调整。
