从大的方面看，英语演讲词实际上是属于一种特殊的说明文或议论文，其基本组成部分是：
（1）开始时对听众的称呼语

（2）提出论题

第一段引入要讨论的话题。也就是现在人们在普遍讨论一个话题：是否应该使用一次性塑料袋。而你的观点是……（应该/不应该）OK，第一段结束。

议论文的中心论点有以下方法：1、用排除论据法。排除论据法就是在整体阅读全文的基础上，找出所有的事实论据和理论论据， 因为论据是用来证明论点的事实和道理，绝对不是论点， 因此要加以排除。2、论据检验法。在排除论据以后， 一篇议论文一般就只剩下几句议论性语句了。 要从它们中间确定论点，就要使用论据检验法。 根据论据所列举的事实和阐明的道理， 来看它们是否在共同证明某一种看法或是为论证某一句话而服务。如果是，那么， 这一看法或这一句话就是本文的中心论点，否则， 就不是本文的中心论点。另外，有的文章论点是由作者提出的， 文中引用名人的话，是为了增强论证的权威性和说服力。 也有的文章以引用名人的一句话作为论点， 全文论据都是为证明这一论点服务的，为此， 也要使用论据检验法进行验证。3、可通过观察文章标题，开头段，中间段，结尾段等文章的主要结构来判断分论点。有些文章标题即论点，直接在题目就直接点名了中心论点。例如：《宽容是美德》作者通过正反对比论证，最终的得到中心论点：宽容是一种美德，这个论点在题目中就已经明示。
