1)发展了“邓-林奇”(Deng-Lynch)法来测定基因突变的突变率、突变对机体的危害及其遗传效应。有关这项工作的一系列文章发表在美国遗传学报(Genetics)上。主要因为这项工作,他于1997年获得美国自然科学家协会的优秀青年科学奖;2)第一次发现并证实维生素-D的受体基因和雌性激素的受体在一定程度上决定人类骨质密度的自然变化及药理调控。这项工作发表在Human Genetics及国际骨质研究学刊(Osteoporosis International)上。他为此于1999年4月获美国骨学研究会第一次有命名的(John Haddad)优秀青年科学家奖;3)第一次发现并证实人类的手腕骨折有其重要的遗传原理及机制。这项工作为寻找人类骨折基因打下了坚实的基础。邓红文博士在Nature、Genetics、Human Genetics、J Bone and Mineral Res、 Evolution、Molecular Biology and Evolution、 Heredity、Genetical Research、Genetica和American J Human Genetics等国际权威刊物上共发表了70余篇论文。其中第一作者和独著或通讯作者的论文60余篇,全部文章被SCI收录,论文总引用达500余次。邓红文博士承担和主持过国家级重大课题7项,获得国际和美国各种杰出青年科学家奖9项,7次应邀在国际重要学术会议上作专题报告,为13个国际一流杂志和美国NSF等基金组织担任评审。目前邓红文博士在美国Creighton大学医学院主持一个遗传学研究室,在研课题6项,经费323.35万美元;在湖南师范大学生命科学学院主持一个分子与统计遗传学研究室,主要开展人类复杂多基因遗传疾病(如骨质疏松、高血压、心脏病、癌症等)基因的分子遗传分析与鉴定。
