Against this background, if is of real significance to conduct a thermal computation of 300MW once-through boilers in variable working conditions and undertake an analysis of the properties thereof. The fact that EXCEL is employed as a tool for calculating boiler heat is based on its powerful data formatting and formulae input functions. EXCEL’s built-in VBA programming tool enables the former to approximate charts by virtue of formulae, thus rendering some data which require chart look-up more easily assessable and more accurate. In addition, EXCEL’s chart-generation function presents in a more direct fashion the changing trend of data to facilitate date analysis. Thermal computation of the heated surfaces of the boiler with the use of the EXCEL software has helped achieve the semi-automation of boiler thermal computation for verification and adjustment purposes by improving the speed and accuracy of the computation. Using as its computation object the 935 ton/hr once-through boiler manufactured by the Shanghai Boiler Factory in 1971, based on the standard approach in thermal computation of boiler generating units, incorporating the latest studies on the boiler industry in recent years and utilizing the modern office software of EXCEL, this paper is a result of the thermal computation of multiple working conditions of the 300MW once-through boiler and optimization of the computational formulae of certain parameters which culminated in a study and analysis of the data obtained through the computation.
