对于科研人员来说，cover letter 并不是一个陌生的事物。在投稿SCI期刊的时候，杂志社往往会要求和Manuscript同时上传一封Cover Letter（投稿附言）。投稿附言是在投稿时写给编辑的有关于稿件的说明，用于传达稿件的主要信息，帮助编辑更快地做出反馈。一些出版物会给出如何写投稿附言的详细指南，但更多的杂志社是让作者自己准备，并不给出相关的模板说明。那么，Cover Letter的撰写有哪些要求呢？都应该包含哪些内容呢？Cover Letter 的要求：1.尽量用精简的语言做出概述和介绍。Cover Letter 最好控制在一页以内，大概200-300个词汇。2.避免拼写和语法错误，在提交之前最好经过仔细的检查。3.尽量不使用或者少使用缩略词。4.采用信件格式，常用的信件格式(1)称呼——Dear editor of xx（期刊名称）/Sirs…(2)落款——Best wishes,xxx /Sincerely yours,xxx…Cover Letter的主要内容：1写信目的。通常来说Cover Letter第一段主要说明投稿文章的基本信息，以及文章声明。首段需要介绍投稿的文章题目以及作者，表明希望在该杂志发表文章，并且进行相关声明：论文全文及论文的部分内容并未在其他杂志发表，该提交不存在任何利益冲突。这一段的目的是介绍文章并做出声明，让编辑了解到有这样一篇文章提交到自己的刊物上面，并且不存在一稿多投的学术不端的行为，让编辑能够放心接收。模板：Enclosed is a manuscript entitled "题目" by "作者", which we are submitting for publication in the journal of "刊物名称". We believe that sth would be of interest to the journal's readers. No part of this paper has published or submitted elsewhere. No conflict of interest exits in the submission of this manuscript.2文章内容概览这一段是Cover Letter 的中心内容，需要作者用嘴简单的语言说明文章的主要创新点和意义。目的是(1)抓住编辑的兴趣，cover letter 是审稿的前菜，只有前菜满足编辑的胃口，采用率才会更高(2)表明文章的内容方向符合杂志的征稿主题，避免因为主题不符等原因被拒稿(3)文章的创新点是编辑主要关注的，说明文章不是老话题翻新，而是实实在在有现实意义的。
