珊瑚为什么同步产卵一直是未解之谜，中研院生物多样性研究中心近日研究发现，满月后日落到月出的这段「黑暗时间」是主要调控因素，研究成果近日登上国际期刊。 珊瑚同步产卵现象在80年代就被澳洲科学家发现，但控制珊瑚同步产卵的机制仍不得而知，中央研究院生物多样性研究中心副研究员野泽洋耕团队及琉球大学热带生物圈研究中心教授高桥俊一组成的国际共同研究团队近日的研究发现，解开这40年来的谜团。 中研院表示，珊瑚会在每年满月后的几天发生集体产卵的行为，目前也已知月光可以调节珊瑚的产卵，野泽洋耕研究团队在2018年至2020年的4月至5月间利用绿岛当地主要的珊瑚物种，也就是环菊珊瑚进行月光操控实验，发现当中的运作机制。 中研院指出，研究结果显示，满月过后的日落到月出前的这段黑暗时间是调控珊瑚同步产卵的关键因子，因为月亮周期的关系，满月前的月出会在日落前发生，因此在日落后紧接来的月光就会抑制珊瑚产卵。 不过，在满月后，因为月出时间改变，会在日落后出现一段黑暗时间，这段黑暗时间就会触发珊瑚产卵，因此珊瑚会在接受到黑暗时间讯号后的第5天集体产卵。 中研院表示，此研究成果已于8月发表在国际期刊「美国国家科学院院刊」（PNAS），论文第一作者为中研院生物多样性研究中心博士后研究员林哲宏，研究团队包括野泽洋耕、研究生Aziz J Mulla及高桥俊一，研究经费由中研院院和日本学术振兴会共同支持。
